Rwanda – Poland to strengthen bilateral ties

A high-level delegation from Poland led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pawel Jablonski was in Kigali from Dec 5-7 to explore closer economic ties with Rwanda. Over 20 Polish companies also accompanied the Minister on the three-day visit to Rwanda.

Vincent Biruta, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced after the meeting that the two countries have decided to sign three deals to strengthen bilateral ties. The new agreements include MOUS on defense cooperation, between universities and between investment agencies.

The Minister remarked that Rwanda attaches high priority to the education sector and Poland is emerging as a top destination for Rwandan students. The two educational institutions that will benefit from the cooperation agreement are the University of Rwanda and Rwanda Polytechnic. Currently, 1200 Rwandan are students pursuing their studies in Poland. Some of the features of the cooperation include offering scholarships, exchange of faculties, and capacity building. Rwanda and Poland already cooperate in the area of education and trade. On the economic cooperation, the private sectors from both countries were able to connect through the business forum.
