Kenyan President William Ruto is visiting Egypt, where he signed twelve deals with his Egyptian counterpart to boost trade, investment, education, and technological exchanges between the two nations. The two leaders also took stock of the global developments, particularly the situation in Gaza. Importantly, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi rejected the proposal of Trump that Palestinians from Gaza should be moved to Egypt and Jordan.

Trump’s comments that Gaza should be ”cleared out” sparked widespread criticism. It is unclear if the U.S. President could force the two countries to agree to the suggestion.

Importantly, both Egypt and Kenya are perceived to be close to the US. With President Trump assuming office at the White House, there are debates on his African policy. In his earlier presidency, Trump did not give much attention to Africa, according to his detractors. This time around, it is expected that he would give considerable attention to the region as business activities are picking up more than ever before and China and Russia are aggressively scouting the region for business and strategic tie-ups.
