President of Kenya William Ruto, addressed a joint sitting of Parliament, while members of both the Senate and the National Assembly were in attendance.
The address is set the precedence of the Kenyan Constitution requiring the Head of State to address the opening of each newly elected Parliament.
Ruto outlined policies and key priorities anchored in the bottom-up economic model that he passionately campaigned for. He told the members that his administration would work towards realizing that goal. The 13th Parliament was sworn in on September 8th following the aftermath of the August 9th General Election.

The keenly fought election has seen Ruto pitted against his rival, former prime-minister Raila Odinga. The final call of the election result was left with the Constitutional Court since Ruto’s narrow election was challenged by Odinga before the apex court on the ground that proper procedure was not followed while declaring the results by the election commission, among other things, which was turned down by the court.
