Morocco’s tourism revenues in the first five months of 2022 have touched $1.99 billion reflecting the robust recovery of the sector. The latest data was revealed by the Minister of Tourism Fatim-Zahra Ammor at a parliamentary session at the House of Representatives this week. The figure represented a 173% increase compared to 2021.
After the country lifted the COVID induced travel ban in February this year, the tourism sector has recovered by 52% compared to 2019.The Minister attributed the bouncing back of tourism to the measures Morocco adopted to manage the fallout of the COVID crisis, enabling the country to retain its tourism attractiveness and credibility in terms of tourists and major stakeholders in the sector, including airline companies, travel agencies, etc. The Country is also aggressively promoting its tourist destinations through marketing, opening of new air routes and the increase of weekly flights in long-existing air routes.
Morocco has also announced e-visas facility from July 10 for foreigners coming from 49 countries to boost its tourism sector. The duration of e-visa will be 30 days and can be extended up to six months with multiple-entry in Morocco.
