In Somalia, the president and prime-minister are on a collusion course. President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, popularly known as Farmajo, announced the suspension of the prime-minister on the ground that he was involved in a corruption case of land grabbing.
As a counter measure, Prime-minister Mohammed Hussein Roble ordered the Somali armed forces to be placed under his command. In a statement issued, the prime minister said that the president seemingly destroying government institutions. He further added that President’s constitutional mandate already expired, since his term of office was over. Therefore, he ordered all Somali national forces to work under the commands of the office of the prime minister from today onwards.
Somalia is preparing for elections, though the preparations are sluggish. Analysts are of the opinion that the President has only the power to name the prime minister but does not have the power to fire , especially by a president whose constitutional term got over. The dispute alarmed international observers. The US embassy in Mogadishu to urge Somalia’s leaders to de-escalate tensions.
