The number of refugees in Chad fleeing from Sudan crossed 90,000, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The number is steadily increasing. A few days ago, UNHCR estimated the number of refugees at 76,000 and now it crossed 90,000

The number of refugees in Chad fleeing from Sudan crossed 90,000, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The number is steadily increasing. A few days ago, UNHCR estimated the number of refugees at 76,000 and now it crossed 90,000 indicating the level of insecurity prevailing in the northern African country, where two generals are engaged in a war to outwit the other, causing innumerable problems for the civilians

The UN estimates to date at a thousand dead and more than a million internally displaced persons. More than 250,000 people have left Sudan” for neighbouring countries since the start of this war. Chad accounts for most of the refugees. Many makeshift refugee camps in the east, close to the border in this desert area, have come up to park the incessant flow of refugees, mainly constituting women and children.

Recently, the United Nations and its partners appealed for US$3 billion to help millions of people in Sudan to support refugees, returnees, and host communities in the Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.
