South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said he was working with his counterparts from Egypt, Ghana, Kenya and Rwanda to save South Africa’s Aspen Pharmacare from closure. Recently, some executives of the pharmaceutical company indicated about the possible closure of the plant due to lack of orders for jabs. Ramaphosa attributed the lack of orders to the global network that buys Covid-19 vaccines.
The President observed that the closure of the plant would affect not only South Africa but all other countries aspiring to manufacture covid vaccines. South Africa is the most affected country in Africa due to Covid-19. Recently, the county has announced its firth wave of covid 19.

As of Wednesday, May 4, South Africa’s National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), reported 6,170 new COVID-19 cases. The total number of laboratory-confirmed cases is now 3 808 368, with a positive rate of 22.6%.
