Fast political changes are taking place in Great Britain, which has put political analysts in deep speculative mode. There are different versions of the overall objective of the changes brought about at a crucial time when the world political scene is fraught with several imponderables.

Important among the changes is the removal of Suella Braverman from her position as Home Secretary. Some consider this drastic move was a consequence of her defying the directives from No 10 by publishing an article that accused the Metropolitan Police of displaying bias in their handling of protests. James Cleverly has been named as her successor.

The unexpected appointment in the reshuffle was of former Prime Minister David Cameron as the new Foreign Secretary. The move is interpreted by some as a clever one by Rishi Sunak as he seeks to reshape his top team in preparation for the upcoming Autumn Statement next week. Pollsters predict that the support for the ruling conservative party is at a record low. The party has to do some major shakeups before it faces the election in early 2025. Importantly, Cameron was a bitter critic of Israel and its Palestine policy. It is to be seen whether his induction would bring about any radical changes in the British ambivalent stand on the conflict.

www.trendsnafrica.com has recently reported about the impending decision of the British Supreme Court on the immigration issue, which has divided the citizens into two groups; one supporting the Conservative move to relocate the illegal immigrants to Rwanda in a special enclosure ensuring them a non-discriminatory atmosphere and the other opposing it. But there is a growing segment of the population, which feels that it was not a humane approach. Even the lower courts concurred with that point of view while halting the government’s move to relocate the identified migrants.

Analysts say that there may not be any major departure in the approach of the government since the polity has already reconciled to the idea that there should be a solution to the growing immigration problem, which has made Britain along with other West European countries a haven for illegal immigrants from African countries.
