According to reports, Qatar Airways, Qatar national carrier will launch flights to Botswana’s capital, Gaborone, in the coming months. The airline proposes to have three weekly flights, Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays served by A350-900.It will be the first non-African airline to fly passengers in and out Botswana. The inaugural flight via Johannesburg, South Africa is scheduled to take place on October 27th., with an average age of just 2.3 years. It was also reported that the carrier will not service passengers going only to South Africa.
Botswana becomes the 16th destination of Qatar Airways on its African routes. So far Botswana is connected by only five airlines namely Air Botswana, Air Namibia, South African Airlink, Ethiopian Airlines and South African Express. Botswana is renowned as a tourist destination, particularly for safaris. Last year the tourism sector of Botswana recorded 3.4% growth. The new connectivity by Qatar Airways is expected to attract more tourists and give further boost to the sector.
