Qatar Airways has announced that to cater to the growing demand in the Doha-Nairobi sector, it is increasing frequencies on the Doha-Nairobi route to two daily flights or 14 per week . Qatar Airways Vice President – Africa Hendrik Du Preez said that the new flights were needed to accommodate more travellers. The booking started surging after the reopening of borders especially from travellers from Europe and the US who want to go to Nairobi via Qatar. Qatar Airways started operations in Nairobi in November 2005 with five weekly flights. In 2011 the number of flights was raised to 12 weekly flights.
According to the International Air Transport Association, international and domestic travel picked up from September last year, though far below the pre-pandemic levels. The travel restrictions by most of the countries to control the spread of the pandemic continue to delay recovery in international markets. The hopes for a revival of travel during Christmas also failed to take off. The aviation sector continues to suffer from layoffs, job cuts, and business closures.
