Russian President Vladimir Putin said that relations between Russia and South Sudan were developing intensively while adding that Russia was one of the first countries to recognize the sovereignty and independence of South Sudan. Putin received the South Sudan President Salva Kiir in Moscow.

Putin underscored the need for the two nations to come together primarily in the area of economic development. Kiir, while reciprocating the good words said by Putin, remarked that he was in Moscow as an opening of the long work in the future.
