President Vladimir Putin kicked off his fifth term in office with an inauguration ceremony held at the Kremlin yesterday (7th May) marking the beginning of another six-year tenure as Russia’s leader. Amidst political suppression, a controversial war in Ukraine, and an increasingly centralized power structure, the event was debated amongst international observers. A good number of diplomats and other invited dignitaries participated in the event.

Held in the Golden Palace of the Grand Kremlin, Mr. Putin placed his hand on the Russian Constitution and took the pledge to defend it. He addressed a crowd of selected dignitaries, emphasizing unity and resilience in the face of challenges. He vowed to return the glory of the erstwhile Soviet Union.
