Protesters gathered outside the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) on Tuesday (4th February) to voice their opposition to Musk’s actions. Protesters were voicing against the downsizing of the government employees.
According to people who demonstrated, mostly government employees, the move of the new administration was frightening and disgusting and required pushback. They said that the present steps including the overarching powers of Elon Musk were against the spirit of diversity and inclusion and would lead to racial segregation.
Some of the protesters compared it with the Jim Crow laws that historically enforced racial segregation and disenfranchised African Americans in the U.S. from the late 19th century. They believe that Musk, as a “special government employee,” is exempt from standard ethics and disclosure rules. Democrats worry about his unchecked power and potential legal violations, raising concerns about democratic governance and federal integrity
