It is now election season for Nigeria which will go to the polls for electing a new president in early 2023. Four top presidential candidates started campaigning in Nigeria this week for next February’s election. This is an open race to replace President Muhammadu Buhari.
Interestingly, the presidential election is evenly poised. No clear frontrunner is in sight in the tight race for the next president. What is significant is the hope for a change since Nigeria bucked the trend of the incumbent clinging on to the post by hook or by crook, even by amending the constitution through unholy measures.

With the economy struggling, high inflation, and a general sense of insecurity, many voters are looking for alternatives. They are betting on small political parties and their coalitions to bring about transformations in all aspects of civic life in the West African country, known for its oil wealth and steeply entrenched corruption. – There are 18 presidential candidates in the fray, as of now, including one woman. Nigerian elections have been marked by violence, delays, fraud claims, and court challenges, since returning to democracy in 1999. Many predict that this year’s election can be a different story, but for the last-minute security challenges the election can be let loose.
