Powering the Future: Morocco's Plan to Expand Renewable Energy to 9,338 MW

(3 Minutes Read)

Morocco’s National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE) has sanctioned an increase in the nation’s renewable energy capacity, aiming for 9,338 megawatts (MW) by 2029, representing a 29% rise from last year.

The ANRE council convened to evaluate and announce the national grid’s capacity for the 2025-2029 period, providing clearer guidelines for investors and industry stakeholders to support Morocco’s electricity sector modernization. This decision follows extensive discussions with stakeholders to accurately assess transmission and distribution networks.

A significant enhancement allows for greater flexibility in reallocating unused grid capacity between transmission and distribution systems, ensuring a better balance between production and consumption while optimizing existing infrastructure.

Additionally, ANRE emphasized the importance of publishing hosting capacity figures to aid both public and private operators, as well as regulatory authorities. By collaborating closely with the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and other network managers, ANRE aims to deliver accurate data to inform energy policy while maintaining grid security and stability.
