A Portuguese hacker claimed responsibility for leaking confidential
documents implicating the billionaire daughter of a former prominent
African leader -Isabel dos Santos- in alleged murky international
business deals. The case has evinced the glare of the international
media. Significantly, Africa’s richest woman had given a miss to the
recently held World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos, which she used to
frequent every year. The flamboyant billionaire did not give any
reasons for her absence from the international meet.

Dos Santos, daughter of Angola’s former president Jose Eduardo dos
Santos held top jobs in Angola and a high-profile international
position. The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists a
week ago produced an explosive report arraigning her, her husband and
close associates with many murky financial transactions in Europe and
Middle East.

Angolan authorities are also leveling charges against Dos Santos of
money-laundering, embezzlement, mismanagement, influence-peddling,
forgery and are demanding her to repay at least US$1.1 billion.
However, Dos Santos is on a denial mode. Dos Santos has built an
estimated US$2 billion fortune over the years. The Portuguese
whistleblower had unearthed  more than 715,000  documents pertaining
to her seedy financial transactions.

Gerard Ryle, director of the International Consortium of Investigative
Journalists justified the deeds of the whistle blower in his website
and said  the documents came from a concerned citizen — someone doing
the right thing  for the public.

Pinto, the whistle blower has been in jail for almost a year after
Portugal extradited him from Hungary. He is charged with publishing
internal documents that embarrassed soccer clubs and officials in the
Football Leaks case. However, he denies any wrongdoing in that case
and said that he acted in the public interest.
