It is reported that the Angolan government’s request to freeze
overseas assets of Isabel dos Santos has been granted by the
Portuguese authorities. Luanda (Angolan capital)  is determined to
bring the billionaire daughter of ex president Jose Eduardo dos Santos
to  implicate for alleged corruption and  misappropriation of state
funds. Isabel was also head of the country’s oil firm, SONANGOL, a
post she was controversially held at the behest by her father. She was
fired by President Lourenco after taking office in 2017. Her brother
Jose Filomeno is also facing corruption charges.   He was heading the
national sovereign fund.  Angolan assets of Ms Dos Santos were frozen
by a court order late last year after an exposé into corruption files
linked to her wealth. She  denied the charges made against her and
stressed that she had earned all her wealth legally.

Dos Santos built up a vast business empire over the past two decades
and has  stakes in several Angolan and Portuguese companies. Her
assets are valued at US$2.1 billion  and is Africa’s richest woman in
2013.
