Portugal assistance to Mozambican MSMEs

·        The Portuguese government  will lend support to the
Mozambican micro, small and medium-sized companies affected by the
Covid-19 pandemic

·        The Portuguese embassy in Maputo announced that Portugal
would provide financing lines to the tune of 1.8 million Euros to
African Portuguese Speaking Countries (PALOP).

·        Mozambique’s private sector will mostly benefit from direct support.

The Portuguese government  will lend support to the  Mozambican micro,
small and medium-sized companies affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. It
is in addition to the humanitarian help being extended by the
Portuguese government to help the African country mitigate the
problems being faced on account of the Covid-19.

The Portuguese embassy in Maputo announced that Portugal would provide
financing lines to the tune of 1.8 million Euros to African Portuguese
Speaking Countries (PALOP). Mozambique’s private sector will mostly
benefit from direct support. Sectors like education and nutrition will
also be benefited by the assistance. Support lines include redirecting
40% of the Portuguese Cooperation Business Fund (FECOP) to support
Mozambican micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) facing
cash and liquidity difficulties as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mozambique will benefit from 250,000 Euros made available to the
Education Sector Support Fund (FASE). Portugal will disburse its
contribution to this fund immediately, taking into account the
prevention and response measures adopted by the Mozambican government.

In addition to aid to companies and the education sector, a fund of
€30,000 for the Covid-19 Response Plan presented by the World Food
Program-directed nutrition programs  to the schools will be made
available once thee schools are re-opened. .
