The volume of cargo handled at the Port of Beira of Mozambique fell by 5% from March to the beginning of June, compared to the same period in the last two years. mainly on account of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
According to some reports, the Port of Beira last year handled a record 278,000 containers, compared to 255,000 in 2020. Also, in 2021, the general cargo terminal handled 3.3 million tons, against 3.1 million tons registered in 2020.

In view of these constraints, the port will go for new cargo handling equipment and a computer system called C-Gate. An investment estimated at around US$10 million, would be infused. The C-Gate computer system uses artificial intelligence and is able to automate the access of trucks to the port in real-time. The new equipment went into operation recently.
