The World Bank recently published the new Container Terminal Performance Index, wherein the Port of Beira has bagged the highest rank of all Container Terminals in Southern Africa. It is ahead of other ports in the region, such as Durban, Cape Town, Dar Es Salaam, and Walvis Bay
The World Bank recently published the new Container Terminal Performance Index, wherein the Port of Beira has bagged the highest rank of all Container Terminals in Southern Africa. It is ahead of other ports in the region, such as Durban, Cape Town, Dar Es Salaam, and Walvis Bay.
This performance of the port has improved riding on the back of investment in human resources, infrastructure, equipment, and systems and improving the overall efficiency of the port. Currently, the port authorities are expanding the container yard, as well as exit complexes.
The Port of Beira is gearing up to improve its ranking among ports in the world, port authorities indicated. Therefore, the port is focussing on reducing the turnaround of ships, and investing in people, infrastructure, and equipment.

The Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) is constructed by the World Bank, which ranks ports based on parameters including ships’ waiting time in port, cost-effectiveness, reliability, etc. In 2021, a total of 370 ports worldwide were assessed. Algeciras in Spain is the highest-ranked European port, ranked 10th overall, while King Abdullah Port in Saudi Arabia is the highest-ranked port globally.
