Pope Francis, later escorted in his Popemobile to the Palace of the Nation, where he met Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi. The pontiff expressed concern about the continued disturbances in the country in particular and Africa in general. Earlier, the pontiff said that Africa was not a land to be exploited and urged the community of nations to shun that idea and work together for the overall development of the region.
Pope Francis further added that Africa was not a mine to be stripped or a terrain to be plundered. The Congolese president spoke of the challenges facing the Continent, notably security and the environment degradation. He further added that security issues persisting for a long time diverted the attention of the central African country with the result that focus on environment preservation has been taking a backseat.

Pope Francis, it is reported, will not be visiting the east of the country where the security crisis has lasted for more than two decades. The pontiff will launch his message of peace and reconciliation with the aim of easing tensions in this part of the DRC from Kinshasa.
