seeking to lay out a positive vision for US cooperation with Africa,
where China has been increasingly active
The US Secretary of State’s discussions with Senegalese President
Macky Sall will focus on security in the sub-region after the Pentagon
announced this week that it was considering withdrawing its troops
from Africa.
Significantly, during the visit Mike Pompeo has a heavy agenda. He
will sign five agreements with the Senegalese authorities, apart from
meeting with stakeholders of the private sector, address young
people. The US Secretary of State also would visit Angola and then
Ethiopia, where the visiting dignitary has lined up some important
meetings, which will have more tilt on economic and strategic
cooperation with countries in the region.
