Pointe Noire revamp to augment Congo’s port facilities

President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso  dedicated to
the nation the new infrastructure  at the Congo terminal of  Pointe
Noire. The new facility would help the Republic of Congo to
consolidate its position as the best transit country in Africa. The
port is used by many countries including land locked ones for export
and import purposes.  The autonomous port  in the Congolese economic
capital has introduced  modern infrastructure and equipment to
significantly improve the capacity and operational performance of the
port.

The traffic volumes of the port have increased from 322,000 containers
in 2009 to 921,000 containers in 2019. The berthing capacity of the
ships also has gone up from 3,000 to 12,00. Also, three quays have
been refurbished under the pulic private initiative.  Addition of
these facilities has reduced the average dock time for large vessels.

The main activity of Congo Terminal handling is the container-ships
and RORO ships (loading/unloading). Since the beginning of the
concession (private-public partnership) in 2009, Bolloré ports
launched considerable works of modernization and extension of Congo
Terminal. Through this development,  more than 750 jobs have been
created.   Its modernization took almost 27 years. Over 570  million
Euro  was spent till date for augmenting the port capacities. Now, the
port has got all the facilities of a good transshipment port.  The
