In a positive development that portends the return of peace in the region in eastern DRC, M23 rebels met soldiers from a regional military force recently to hand over a strategic frontline position near the major eastern city of Goma. The area has been the epicenter of tensions between the allied forces and the M23 rebels. It appears as if the M23 forces are yielding to the pressure being exerted by the international community.

Welcoming the developments, a representative of the recently deployed East African Community military force said the handover was a positive indicator that could snowball the peace process in the region, plagued with deadly fights for a long time.
