In a bid to enhance bilateral trade and investment ties, a high level Official cum business delegation from Pakistan is in Kenya for a two-day conference on Pakistan-Africa Trade Development Conference. The conference, the first ever of its kind, is jointly hosted by Islamabad’s Ministry of Commerce and  Kenyan Foreign Affairs Ministry in Nairobi.

A press brief from the Pakistani High Commission in Nairobi, about the conference, said Pakistani Foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, leader of the Pakistani business delegation to Kenya, is expected to pitch for deals and opportunities for government and private sector in various sectors. The statement further added that the conference will bring the two sides together for a meaningful exchange to enhance trade and economic relations between Pakistan and the African continent.

In 2018, Pakistan was the second biggest destination of Kenyan exports.  During the year, Kenya’s exports to Pakistan stood at Sh59.4 billion while its imports from Pakistan was worth Sh21.4billion with the balance of trade in favour of Kenya. In 2019, also Pakistan  continued its position as the largest buyer of Kenyan tea with stocks worth Sh35 billion in the 10 months to October. According to the latest data from the Tea Directorate of Kenya, Pakistan has remained a major buyer of the Kenyan tea over the years, buying almost 40 percent of Kenya’s total tea production
