The African Union Commission (AUC) Department of Health Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development (HHS) is organizing the 6th edition of the Pan African Forum on Migration (PAFOM) in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Senegal in Dakar. To be held on 11th and 12th September 2021, the Forum will have the theme: ‘’Strengthening Labor Migration Governance in Africa in the context of a pandemic, for accelerated socio-economic development and continental integration”.
The Forum will witness vibrant discussions among participants. That will provide necessary policy and operational guidance on how to improve labor migration governance at national, regional and continental levels for socio-economic development and faster integration of the continent.
Two events were held on the side lines of the PAFOM yesterday (10th September). The first meeting addressed labor migration data gaps in the previous editions of the labor migration statistics reports to provide better policy development in Africa. The second side event was the African Union Labor Migration Advisory Committee (AU-LMAC) Annual Meeting. At this forum, the participants strategized ways to accomplish its work plan, given the challenges of the pandemic.
PAFOM6 will include a discussion on promoting decent work in Africa through the protection of migrant workers and members of their families to ensure that African migrant workers are protected from unfair and unethical recruitment practices, guaranteed social protection, and are empowered to contribute to the host country’s socio economic development.
The PAFOM forum will be a hybrid event, with some participants attending through a dedicated online platform, while others will attend in person. The meeting will be led by the PAFOM Chair (Senegal) and will be organized into different sessions.
