Oyo state of Nigeria favours converting airports into concessional ones

The Oyo State government has endorsed the Federal Government’s plan to concession airports in the country to revamp their functioning and tonne up efficiency.  Governor of the state, Seyi Makinde, said that his State would support the concession of the airport, in case it was listed as a concession airport

The Oyo State government has endorsed the Federal Government’s plan to concession airports in the country to revamp their functioning and tonne up efficiency.  Governor of the state, Seyi Makinde, said that his State would support the concession of the airport, in case it was listed as a concession airport.

The Federal Government has since 2016 begun efforts to concession airports nationwide. It began with the big four in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt.

Makinde said the state government had been committed to the expansion and development of the Ibadan airport, as a contiguous facility to Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos till a decision is taken to categorise it as a concessional airport. The state has been investing in the modernization of the airport from time to time, such as in the construction of 500,000 liters aviation fuel storage and dispensing facility, among others. The state government is also working on improving the access to the airport such as building access roads, revamping taxi services, building bus terminals, and a host of other things.
