The French telecom giant Orange has shown an interest in buying a stake from the partial privatization of Ethiopia’s state-owned telecom services provider Ethio Telecom.
Henok Teferra Shawl, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to France,said in a tweet he had fruitful discussions with the team of Orange. Mr. Henok further noted Ethiopia was fast becoming an attractive destination to foreign investors, with a fast-growing economy and an upward moving population of 100 million people.
Ethio Telecom has last month launched a tendering process, to sell a 40 percent stake of the company to private investors, reserving 5 percent for the general public in Ethiopia, and a controlling 55 percent to remain in the hands of the Ethiopian government.
