The PAI-Terra Ranka opposition coalition won the majority of seats in Guinea-Bissau’s parliament election. The party of President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, Madem-G15, took only 29 seats, while the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde won 54 seats of the total 102 seats
The PAI-Terra Ranka opposition coalition won the majority of seats in Guinea-Bissau’s parliament election. The party of President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, Madem-G15, took only 29 seats, while the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde won 54 seats of the total 102 seats.
Snap legislative elections were held in the country on 4 June 2023. Incumbent president Umaro Sissoco Embalo dissolved the parliament on 16 May 2022, accusing deputies of corruption and unresolvable differences between the National People’s Assembly and other government branches.
Domingos Simões Pereira, leader of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), which won the election thanked the voters for their support and committed that his party would work for the welfare and betterment of the people.

Following the announcement by the electoral authorities, President Embalo announced he was ready to appoint Domingos Simões Pereira, the PAIGC president, and leader of the PAI-Terra Ranka coalition, as Prime Minister.
