An online portal has been launched to ease travel and business dealings for Ugandans with China. Uganda’s Consul General Ambassador to China, Guangzhou Ms Judyth Nsababera launched the online portal to facilitate communication between China and Uganda. The Portal, a joint effort by the consulate and Stuart Ssemujju, a Ph.D. student at South China University in Guangzhou, is expected to be a gateway to improve cultural and economic interaction between the consulate and Ugandans. The objective is to boost participation in official, economic, cultural, and social events and also promote investment conferences, business symposiums, and trade and tourism exhibitions.

Launching the portal, she said that Ugandan citizens, Ugandans in the Diaspora, and businessmen visiting or living in China can reach out to the consulate’s assistance through the portal. The registration can be done by scanning the QR code on the consulate’s website and social media platforms. She also added that China has lifted COVID travel restrictions from January 8th. All restrictions of Covid testing and quarantine in all the cities have been removed to facilitate travel to China after taking a 48-hour prior PCR test, to be shown to the airline.  The Portal will support the consulate to contact Ugandan nationals and their families in case of any emergency. Similarly, the system will have copies of passports and assist in booking hotels, transport, etc. The system can trace and support the Ugandans travelling in China in case they encounter any issues.
