Nigeria’s Amina Mohammed has been re-appointed as Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN). The announcement came from António Guterres after he was appointed by the UN General Assembly for the second term.
Addressing the press after taking the oath of office for a second term, Guterres, said that he has invited Mrs Mohammed to continue in office. Guterres, who became the ninth secretary-general in January 2017 will start his second term on January 1, 2022, and will run for a period of five years.

Ms Amina Mohammed a diplomat and politician served as Nigeria’s Minister of Environment from 2015 to 2016. She also held the office of the special adviser to Ban Ki-moon the former UN secretary General on post-2015 development planning, which focused on the 2030 agenda for sustainable development goals. She is who is serving as the fifth Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

She was born in UK, to a Nigerian veterinarian-officer and a British nurse.
