A large number of Nigerian international travellers were yesterday stranded as some foreign airlines withdrew flight services into the United States, citing safety concerns over 5G rollout. Travelers from other countries were also affected because of the unexpected cancellation of flights, although the US Federal Authorities assured of safety in the midst of 5G rolling out.

The passengers, who had earlier booked connecting flights into the United States, were caught in transit by abrupt modification on U.S. scheduled flights. Travelers of Emirates, Lufthansa, British Airways and Air India were the most affected.

Transport regulators were apprehensive about the likely impact of 5G roll out on the radio signals of some airplane instruments. The Federal Aviation Administration has apprehended that 5G cellular antennas near some airports could affect the readings of some aircraft equipment, such as radar altimeters, which instruct pilots distances including how far they are from the ground. Those systems are used throughout a flight and are considered critical equipment.

5G data roll-out represents the next step in terms of internet usage on mobile phone networks. It provides higher bandwidth to users and faster access to the internet and more consistent connections.
