Nigerian state and private schools reopened after months-long lockdown due to Covid-19. The schools have been reopened after putting in place strict coronavirus prevention guidelines to be adhered by all school staff and students alike, revealed Adamu Adamu, Nigeria’s Minister of Education.
School authorities opine that implementation of the strict guidelines was a bit of a challenge. Compliance to mandatory conditions like the floor markings, maintaining lockers, usage of face masks, social distancing etc are a bit of a challenging task.
Last month, authorities allowed the partial reopening of schools for graduating students to enable them to appear for the national advancement exams. The daily infection figures, which were at 700 in July and August, now has come down to 200. That was the reason for reopening of the schools country-wide. Wearing face masks is mandatory in Nigeria. The state also advised citizens to maintain social distancing and washing their hands regularly and use hand sanitizers. The Western African country, the most populated in the continent, has reported 60,430 infections with 1,115 fatalities and 51,943 recoveries. Nigeria has a population of 200 million people.
