(3 Minutes Read)

Nigeria launched Africa’s largest locally assembled electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Abuja as part of a broader initiative to boost domestic EV production and decrease dependence on fossil fuels. The event featured the introduction of locally manufactured electric buses and taxis, aligning with the government’s goals to reduce emissions and modernise the automotive sector.

Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment John Uwan-Enoh stated that Nigeria aims for 30% of all locally produced vehicles to be electric. This initiative is part of the National Automotive Industry Development Plan, which targets an annual production of one million vehicles, a 40% increase in local content, and the creation of 200,000 jobs.
