Nigeria Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika has stated that the country will apply the principle of reciprocity and not allow flights from countries that do not allow Nigerian flights to land due to coronavirus restrictions. However, he clarified that the proposed step will apply to landing rights for aircraft, and not the nationals of the countries. The director-general of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority said that the list is being compiled by the authorities.

Nigeria halted international flights in late March in an attempt to curb the spread of the virus. Earlier this week it announced plans to resume international flights on Aug. 29. The resumption is expected to start with four flights daily coming in to both Lagos and Abuja, with the number of passengers to be limited to 1,280 a day.

Nigeria has recorded 985 deaths , and 50,488 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
