Nigeria recorded no additional fatality from the coronavirus pandemic on Thursday. However, 47 new infections were reported across seven states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), which is tracking the infection. It further revealed that the new cases have taken the disease toll to 214,317. The fatality toll remained at 2,978. A total of 207,357 people have been successfully treated and discharged in the country.
Plateau State in the North-central topped the chart with 16 cases. The FCT and Rivers State reported eight cases each, Gombe and Kaduna states recorded four cases each. Edo and Kano states reported three cases each. Bauchi came last on the log with a single case. The Sokoto State recorded no cases on Thursday.
The Nigerian government officials said that it is closely watching the developments and will take precautionary measures to respond to the disease in time and adequately.
A country-wide vigil is on after the reported fresh cases of the corona variant in South Africa and other countries. WHO has also issued strict guidelines to all countries to follow protocols and compulsory reporting of cases in time to arrest the spread of the virus, which has the capacity to mutate faster than any other strains of the virus?
