Nigeria received samples of vaccine against Covid-19 from Russia
This was delivered by Russia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Alexey Shebarshin, to Nigerian Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, during a visit to the ministry in Abuja. The function was attended by O Mamora, Minister of State for Health and top Nigerian scientists.
The Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier said that his country has earlier approved a vaccine offering sustainable immunity against Covid-19 virus. World Health Organization is in the process of reviewing the effectiveness of the vaccine. The Russian minister also said that the vaccine would be made available to Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control and the Nigerian Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development, among other bodies, for testing and validation of the vaccine.
The Nigerian minister also revealed that the country is taking up with WHO for getting 2 billion vaccine doses for allocation among various states to contain the spread of the pandemic.
