(3 Minutes Read)

Nigeria’s Federal Government has pledged full backing for the Dangote Refinery’s plan to expand its capacity from 630,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day, positioning it as the world’s largest refinery.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, made the announcement at the 19th Africa Downstream Energy Week in Lagos, describing the expansion as a major step toward Africa’s energy independence and validation of President Tinubu’s reform policies.

He emphasized that the removal of fuel subsidies and the liberalization of the petroleum sector have fostered a competitive market, improved product availability, and attracted private investment.

Lokpobiri noted that hydrocarbons remain vital for global energy security despite the shift toward cleaner energy, urging sustained investment in oil and gas to support economic growth and energy transition goals.
