Nigeria: Dangote Refinery Surpasses Domestic Demand with 70 mn Litres of Daily Output

(3 Minutes Read)

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to providing a stable and uninterrupted supply of petrol and diesel across Nigeria, reinforcing its strategic role as a transformative force in Africa’s downstream energy sector.

In a significant operational breakthrough, the refinery announced that it has achieved a daily production milestone of 70 million litres of refined fuel — comprising 45 million litres of petrol and 25 million litres of diesel. This output not only meets but exceeds Nigeria’s current domestic fuel demand, marking a major step toward national energy self-sufficiency.

Speaking on the development, Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, emphasized that this achievement reflects the refinery’s growing influence in stabilizing local fuel supply, strengthening the naira, and positioning Nigeria as a future net exporter of refined petroleum products within the African continent.

Chiejina highlighted that Dangote’s vision extends beyond mere production — it is anchored in a broader mission to enhance national energy security, reduce Africa’s dependence on imported fuels, and support economic stability through sustainable industrial operations.

The refinery’s advanced technological capabilities and massive production scale make it a cornerstone of Nigeria’s energy aspirations and a central driver of Africa’s push toward energy independence and self-reliance. With production levels now surpassing domestic requirements, the company is preparing to export refined products to neighbouring African nations, gradually reducing the continent’s reliance on foreign imports.

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Industries Limited, further assured Nigerians that fuel prices will remain stable through the end of the year, reiterating the company’s commitment to reliable supply and fair market pricing. Industry analysts predict that if this production consistency continues, the Dangote Refinery could reshape Africa’s energy landscape, transforming Nigeria into a net exporter of refined petroleum products for the first time in decades.

Beyond refining operations, the company is developing a comprehensive nationwide fuel distribution network, supported by a fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks designed to reduce transportation costs, cut carbon emissions, and improve logistics efficiency. This move underscores Dangote’s commitment to sustainable, cleaner energy solutions and reflects a forward-looking approach to modern fuel distribution.

Experts note that this integrated operational model — combining large-scale refining, efficient distribution, and eco-friendly CNG transportation — could help stabilize Nigeria’s fuel supply chain, lower consumer prices, and position the nation as a leading energy exporter across Africa.
