President of Niger,Mahamadou Issoufou has been elected as the chairman for a one-year term by the Authority of Ecowas Heads of State and Government. The election took place at the 55th Ordinary Session of the Ecowas leaders in Abuja. Out of the 15 members , thirteen heads of government attended the meeting. He is taking over the charge from President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria. The session also has approved ECO as the name of the single currency to be issued in January 2020.Appreciating the Ministerial committee for its initiative on the adoption of the single Currency, the leaders expressed te hope that the single currency will facilitate the implementation of the revised road map.The committe will collaborate with West African Monetary Institute and the central Banks for the adoption of the single currency and the revised road map.
