· Employers that intend to retain the services of foreign workers with a Gainful Occupation Permit (GOP) who are currently
outside of Seychelles due to closed borders have to inform the employment department by June 30.These employers must write a letter
to the Principal Secretary of Employment, Jules Baker, giving the details of the worker they wish to keep in their organizations. This
must also be done for non-Seychellois workers who need to return to the country to collect their personal belongings.
· Seychelles has issued three bonds worth US$72 million in total to assist the government in covering a deficit of approximately
US$211 million in its spending.The Ministry of Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning (MoFTIEP) said the three Solidarity
Bonds, each worth US$24 million, are being issued as part of the government’s effort to raise funds for additional spending, due to the
impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the island nation’s economy.
· There are discrepancies between the actual quantities and species of fish caught in Seychelles’ waters and what is being reported by national and international regulatory bodies, a newly published report found. The actual catch over the last nearly seven
decades was 1.5 times higher than the reported catch. The research report – ‘A Baseline for the Blue Economy: Catch and Effort History in the Republic of Seychelles’ Domestic Fisheries’ — was done by the Sea Around Us – Indian Ocean.
· Air Seychelles plans to resume flights to Tel Aviv on July 16, the first route to re-open following a near total shut-down of
flights due to COVID-19.The national carrier suspended its flights to Tel Aviv, Israel, in March and to its three regional routes —
Mauritius, Mumbai and Johannesburg — following a significant downturn in air travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
