Announcing the deal, Orange, said that the new submarine cable system will be the longest of its kind in the Mediterranean boosting trans-Mediterranean digital connectivity. It will also share the infrastructure with other telecommunication operators. CEO of Orange Morocco, Hendrik Kasteel, said in a statement that the landing and submarine cable infrastructure in the Nador region, will connect Morocco to the North African and Southern European countries involved in this project.

The statement said that the company also has plans to strengthen its market foothold in Africa by investing in a major fiber optics network in West Africa. The network connects eight African countries, by relying on 20,000 kilometers of terrestrial and submarine infrastructure.
