New airport to come up in Gode, Ethiopia

·        Named as “Miraad Leyli International Airport”, after a local martyr, the construction of the Greenfield airport would cost 600 million birr (over US$15.2 million)

Ethiopia soon will have a new airport. Foundation stone has been laid for the construction of an international airport in the town of Gode, which is lying in the eastern Ethiopia’s Somali region. Named as “Miraad Leyli International Airport”, after a local martyr, the construction of the Greenfield airport would cost 600 million birr (over US$15.2 million).

Those who laid the foundation stone for the airport recently  included Mustafa Omer, Chief Administrator of the Somali region, Kassahun Gofe, Ethiopia’s State Minister of Transport, and Eskinder Alemu, CEO of Ethiopian Airport Enterprises.

There are already 53 airports in Ethiopia. The 13 biggest airports in the country include Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, Arba Mich Airport, Axum Airport, Bahir Dar Airport, aba Tenna Dejazmacj Airport, and Gambella Airport.  Bole is considered to be the largest airport in the country having maximum number of international connectivity.
