Bringing Together National and International Expertise
The Ministry of Agriculture is set to host a major conference that will gather leading Algerian and international experts to deliberate on the future of Algeria’s agricultural sector. The central mission of the event is to design a strategic framework that ensures long-term food security for the nation, while positioning agriculture as a driver of economic resilience and sustainability.
The conference will focus on a series of strategic themes that align with Algeria’s development goals and environmental realities:
- Integration of Emerging Technologies: Exploring modern agricultural technologies such as precision farming, automation, and satellite monitoring to enhance productivity and sustainability.
- Optimized Water Resource Management: Addressing the challenges of water scarcity through efficient irrigation systems, wastewater reuse, and sustainable aquifer management.
- Digitization of the Agricultural Sector: Promoting the use of digital platforms to improve traceability, data management, and decision-making across agricultural value chains.
- Infrastructure Modernization: Upgrading rural infrastructure, storage facilities, and logistics to strengthen domestic supply chains and export potential.
- Agricultural Financing: Expanding access to credit and financial tools that empower farmers and agri-entrepreneurs, particularly through state-backed initiatives.
- Climate Change Adaptation: Developing policies and practices to mitigate the impact of climate change on crop yields, livestock, and rural livelihoods.
The Algerian government envisions a sustainable and innovation-driven agricultural model. This vision is grounded in scientific cooperation, technological advancement, and institutional reform to enhance efficiency and resilience across the sector.
The Ministry aims to transform agriculture into a modernized system capable of ensuring food sovereignty, stimulating exports, and reducing dependence on foreign currency imports. In his address, the Minister of Agriculture emphasized the significant progress already made under current reforms:
- Development of digital platforms tailored for each agricultural subsector.
- Electrification of farms to support mechanization and productivity.
- Construction of new silos to improve grain storage and reduce post-harvest losses.
- Establishment of one-stop service centers to streamline administrative procedures for farmers and investors.
- Mobilization of “R’FIG” credit lines to finance agricultural production and investment projects.
These measures form the backbone of a broader national effort to consolidate food sovereignty, enhance competitiveness, and create sustainable livelihoods in rural areas.
