The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security has announced that Namibia’s Visa on Arrival (VoA) program has been a major success, generating more than N$100 million in revenue and facilitating the smooth entry of over 70,000 international travellers since its launch.

This visa system, which became operational on 3 March 2025, allows eligible visitors to obtain their visas upon arrival at designated entry points. According to the Ministry, all funds collected through this initiative have been directly deposited into the State Revenue Fund. These funds are allocated to support key national development programs, to deliver widespread benefits across the country.

Executive Director Ettienne Maritz emphasised the program’s impact, stating:

“Since the implementation of the Visa on Arrival system, more than 70,000 visitors and tourists have entered Namibia through both the online and manual visa application methods. This initiative has already generated N$100 million in visa revenue, all of which has been paid into the State Revenue Fund to support development projects that serve the interests of all Namibians.”

Maritz also addressed concerns about processing times, assuring the public that the visa issuance process has remained efficient. He confirmed that no traveller has experienced processing delays of more than two to three hours, even during high-traffic periods.

To further streamline immigration procedures, the Ministry has recently enhanced the eVisa platform, which now functions as both a digital visa application system and a pre-filled Visa on Arrival form. This improvement eliminates the need for travellers to complete additional paperwork upon arrival, enabling quicker clearance at immigration checkpoints.

These advancements are part of a broader push toward modernisation, supported by the Electronic Border Management System, which offers real-time monitoring and oversight of immigration operations across the country’s borders.

Reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to efficiency, transparency, and traveller awareness, Maritz noted that all visa-related fees are clearly communicated to visitors. He added that the visa policy includes special concessions for families:

  • Children under six years old are fully exempt from visa fees.
  • Children aged six to eleven are eligible for reduced visa rates.

The Ministry plans to continue refining the system to promote tourism and enhance Namibia’s appeal as a travel destination, while also contributing meaningfully to the national economy.
