Namibia’s Producer Price Index Drops in Q2 2025 Amid Manufacturing Slump, Mining Prices Show Mixed Trends

(3 Minutes Read)

The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) has reported a continued decline in the country’s Producer Price Index (PPI) during the second quarter of 2025, with a 3.1% drop compared to the previous quarter and a 2.5% decline year-on-year.

The NSA attributed the quarterly decrease mainly to a sharp 9.3% drop in manufacturing prices. On an annual basis, the fall was primarily driven by a 5.1% contraction in prices within the mining and quarrying sector. Despite this year-on-year drop, mining and quarrying saw a quarterly price increase of 4.5%, with the index rising from 92.2 to 96.3 basis points, thanks to notable price gains in salt (29.0%), gold (16.0%), and uranium (8.8%). Manufacturing recorded the steepest quarterly decline, with its index falling by 10.7 points to 103.9, mainly due to significant price decreases in diamond cutting and polishing (-40.5%) and non-metallic mineral products like cement (-29.9%). Annually, the manufacturing sector saw a marginal dip of 0.2%.
