Namibia Sees Sharp Rise in Small Stock Exports in June, Despite Yearly Livestock Market Decline

Namibia’s exports of small stock to approved abattoirs and butchers surged by 36.4% in June 2025 compared to May, reaching 12,309 animals, according to the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA). This rebound follows an 18.5% drop in May. On a yearly basis, exports rose by 33.4%, with 12,298 animals coming from south of the Veterinary Cordon Fence (S-VCF), and just 11 from the north (N-VCF).

The Live Small Stock Export Index increased 4.1% month-on-month but declined 46.4% compared to June 2024. Pig slaughtering also rose, with 4,458 pigs processed in June, up from both May 2025 and June 2024.The overall Livestock Marketed Composite Index grew by 1.8% monthly, reversing a previous decline, though it dropped 47.3% year-on-year.

Cattle exports showed mixed results: the index for cattle exports to abattoirs declined by 2.6% in June, following a 4.2% rise in May, and was down 43% annually. Conversely, live cattle exports rose 23% month-on-month but were still down 72.2% compared to the same period last year.
