The vote counting exercise in Uganda’s hotly contested election delayed though is on after claiming 50 lives in poll–related violence. The preliminary results from 330 (0.7 percent) polling stations show the incumbent president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni  in an early lead with 50,097 votes (61.31percent) while opposition frontrunner and NUP presidential candidate, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine was trailing with 22,802 votes (27.9 percent), according to the Electoral Commission’s (EC) provisional results. 2021 Presidential election provisional results from 330 polling stations
It is too early to judge with only 85,721 votes counted. Bobi Wine has indicated the possibility of rejecting poll results alleging gross irregularities.
Delayed voting and technological difficulties in using Biometric Voter Verification Machine and stealing of ballot box were reported from parts of Kampala metropolitan, a traditional stronghold of the opposition. Observers blamed the Election commission for failing in their duty by not providing voting materials in time. Social media, civil societies, and citizens faced a complete shutdown.
