The newly built Rescan Garcia customs terminal also called ‘Porto Seco’, situated on the border between Mozambique and South Africa, will begin its operations from next month.
The project has entailed an expense of US$3.5 million. About 500 trucks can traverse the National Road Number Four (EN4) daily on the way to the port of Maputo. The final arrangements for the customs terminal to start operating are underway and the exact date of commissioning the project will be made public soon.
The terminal has a capacity to store is over 250,000 tons of iron-chromium ore per month and can receive about 60 trucks daily, can handle trains of up to 60 wagons, with freight aggregating 3,000 tons. On an average 17 trains per month can travel through the corridor. .
