The 57th edition of the Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Fair of Mozambique (FACIM) has been cancelled due to the new coronavirus. This was announced by the Agency for the Promotion of Investment and
Exports (APIEX) of Mozambique. APIEX is the largest show of Mozambique.
The show cancellation was a direct impact of Covid-19, which of late is spreading to various African countries. The Mozambique government has banned mass gatherings as a safety measure to prevent the pandemic.
Of the 32 countries that had previously confirmed their presence at this year’s event, 14 had cancelled their participation. This also was a factor in calling off the event.
This commercial fair takes place annually over August and September. On an average, the event will have participation from 20 to 30 countries. The fair also serves as a gateway for foreign investment. That way the impact due to cancellation can be huge in terms of blocking FDI into the country. Authorities said that they would go ahead with the show in 2021 depending on how fast the pandemic will be bottomed out. Otherwise, the fair could be converted into a digital one, APIEX said.
